Chrome Experiments

Chrome Experiments is a collection of interactive websites. Your task is to review two of these "experiments" for the content in your new webpage.

The first site that you have to review is WebCam Toy. The second site is one of the other experiments that you choose.

Each site should be reviewed by asking the following questions...

1. What is the name of the site? What is the URL?

2. What does it do? Briefly describe what you can do at the site?

3. What is it similar to? What makes it better than that? How can it be improved? (For example: Webcam Toy is similar to Photobooth. It has many more choices in effects including several video choices. However, you can not record video. w)

4. What makes it cool?

JAM with Chrome (http://www.jamwithchrome.com/select/)
This site is a generated assortment of musical instruments that the user can play. This site is similar to garage band. It has many different instruments that the user may play and mess around with to create different sounds and tones.

1. “WebcamSwiper”: http://iambrandonn.github.com/WebcamSwiper/, “500 Experiments”: http://500.chromeexperiments.com/

2. “WebcamSwiper” turns the pages of an ebook with the motion of your hands, using the web camera. “500 Experiments” is a collection of different games and experiments.

3. I have never seen anything like “WebcamSwiper” (that’s why I chose to write about it), so I have nothing to compare it too. But there are a couple of things that the creator of the experiment should think about: it still does not perfectly recognize the motion of your hands, frequently turning pages in a different from your hands’ direction. Another problem is that it gets boring after a while, because the book is in Latin, and the pages are repeated.
“500 Experiments” is probably similar to the “Chrome Experiments” itself. I like the design of the first one better, however “Chrome Experiments” is more convenient due to the fact that each experiment has a description and a name, and “500 Experiments” doesn’t. But I feel like the design of the “500 Experiments” will not allow it to have the detailed facts about each experiment it contains. It’s better than “Chrome Experiments” because it has an interesting design and a lot of interesting experiments on one page, whereas in “Chrome Experiments” there is only a certain amount per page.

4. In “WebcamSwiper” it’s the design and the rotating of the pages using the web camera. In “500 Experiments” it’s the design and variety of experiments and games to choose from at once.

1. Webcam toy was a really fun app to use. It was very interesting with all the different features I could use on it. My favorite one was the snow application. It was really cool that it interacted with movements. Another favorite is the color ghost it is really fun to screw around with.

2. I also did the application teach me to fly. It was where a penguin is on a hang glider and you fly around the city. It is hard to master but after crashing a few times you get the hang of it and you can start doing tricks and flips.

The silk experiment is really cool because it almost acts on its own to create an abstract design. all that is needed is the click of a mouse and some movement and it comes up with a unique design every time. the url is http://new.weavesilk.com/ it is similar to the line tool in photoshop, but it is better because it does not only involve straight lines. It can be improved by adding more colors to the experiment.

The webcam toy is very cool because it has many effects that work with the webcam. My favorite effect is filmstrip because it create a cascading wave effect. the url is http://webcamtoy.com/app/?app=html5&ref=ce. It is similar to a normal webcam app, but it is better because it adds effects. it can be improved by adding even more effects to the images.

My favorite webcam toy was the Comic Strip. I liked it because you can take 4 different photos, so I can make different faces. I can’t explain why it’s cool it just is.

I also liked Soft Focus I liked it because it makes me stand out in the photo. It doesn’t show my blemishes… hahaa…. Sooo that’s what makes this one cool.

An excellent site called Webcam Toy can be found by following this link: http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/webcam-toy/?f=. This site allows the user to take pictures of himself with a webcam and apply effects to the images. It is slightly reminiscent of Skype because it makes use of a webcam but it is much more fun for the person who would rather manipulate images than communicate with others with a webcam. Webcam Toy would be improved if the user could send his images to others.

The site called Multiplayer Piano, found by following the link, http://www.multiplayerpiano.com/, allows the user to play a virtual keyboard. It is similar to a virtual MIDI keyboard on DAW programs like ProTools but it is more accessible because the entire keyboard is laid out instead of only one or two octaves that the user must manual change when wanting to alternate between octaves. It could become even more accessible if the user could plug in a MIDI keyboard or something similar to the computer so he could play even more fluently.

The Webcam Toy can be found at http://webcamtoy.com/app/?app=html5&ref=ce. The toy lets you use different filters and effects to take pictures using a webcam. My favorite of the filters was the one with snow falling. Snow falls from the top of the screen. The snow builds up on your eyebrows and mouth as it falls. If you move the snow will fall of your face and continue to fall to the bottom of the screen. It also changes the lighting to make it look like it is cloudy as if it was actually snowing outside. It is cool because you can use so many different effects with it. The Webcam Toy is like Photobooth except it has more options.

Redgie Roll can be found at http://www.redgieroll.comuf.com/. Redgie Roll is a game with a little hedgehog named Redgie. The player must use the mouse to move Redgie down a hill at a fast pace. There are trees in his path though. To maneuver around the trees, you must click so Redgie can borrow into the ground while still moving. The game is cool because it is played through a hedgehog. The game itself is very silly but extremely addicting. Redgie Roll is like any other downhill racing game except it is played with a hedgehog that can borrow into the ground.

1.URL Webcam Toy- http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/webcam-toy/?f=
URL Javascript Dynamics Engine- http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/javascript-dynamics-engine/?f=

2.Webcam Toy- lets you take so many cool pictures comic strips, being on fire, snow falling, ect. The possibilities keep going for the use of the webcam toy

Javascript Dynamics Engine- This chrome experiment lets you fool around with 2 cubes and 3 string. It may not seem that exciting but it actually is pretty fun.

3.Webcam Toy- the only thing that I could say to improve is have webcam toy record videos and not just take pictures.

Javascript Dynamics Engine- Nothing I don’t think really needs to change about Javascript Dynamics, again it may seem boring at first but it is really fun.

4. Webcam Toy- Webcam toy is cool cause it gives more cooler camera options then just plan old photo booth.

Javascript Dynamics Engine-2 cubes 3 string basically doesn’t seem fun but you can sit and fool around with this chrome experiment for hours and have fun.
